Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is an island nation to the south of India, in the Indian Ocean. Having recently overcome twenty-five years of war and turmoil, the country is rapidly becoming a premier travel destination. It is famed for its ancient Buddhist ruins and temples, including the fifth Century citadel Sigiriya, with its palace and frescoes.
The city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s ancient capital, has many ruins dating back more than 2000 years. The country’s diverse landscape ranges from rainforests and arid plains, to highlands and sandy beaches, with variations in biodiversity normally found across an entire continent. The island’s heavy rainfall during the monsoons contribute to Sri Lanka’s rich, natural habitat, which is said to have the highest concentrations of leopard in the world.
